"A" League Belfield Bowl- Sunday 27-Jul-08
Rams travelled to Dublin on Sunday 27/07/08 to take on UCD in the A League. Rams showed 4 changes from their game with Bray, with P O'Halloran and Wayne McBride on holidays and R.Gaynor and M.O'Shea on first team duty from the previous night. Rams started brightly and M.Murphy tested the UCD keeper on 6 mins. Then A UCD attack saw Martin Deady get a good block on a shot from O'Callaghan. UCD took the lead on 30 mins, when a low free kick form O'Callaghan found its way to Leahy who slotted home from close range. With UCD making more use of the wide pitch, Rams found themselves having to defend, but on 37 mins UCD again found the net through O'Callaghan . Down 2-0 at half time Rams came out in determind mood in the second half but UCD held firm and despite Rams best efforts UCD added a further 3 goals through Kelly (63 min), Purcell(75min) and Nagle (80min).
Rams misery was compounded when goalkepper Haines red-carded for dissent on 82 mins. Centre half Deccie Cahill took over took over for the final minutes in goal, he then sustained a hand injury when diving bravely into the feet of UCD's McMillan.
Not a great day overall for Rams when just nothing seemed to go right for the team.
