Cobh Ramblers 1-2 Galway United
“A” League Cobh Ramblers vs Galway United St.Colmans Park Saturday 23/08/08
Rams entertained Galway in this league encounter played in damp conditions on Saturday 23/08/08. Despite having the bulk of possession Rams still found themselves at the end of a 2-1 scoreline.
Even though the Galway side missed a second half penalty (wide), Rams had two goals disallowed for offside, the two calls were marginal, but that’s all a part of the game. Rams first unlucky call came on 9 mins when Mark Murphy’s close range finish, from a superb Ian Stapleton pass was deemed to be offside. Galway scored in the 30th minute when a neat one-two between McDonagh and O’Brien saw Keane head an O’Brien cross. On 67min Cobh Wayne McBride saw his tap in whistled as offside, but 3 mins later Max Cream fired home when Alan Kearney’s shot was palmed out by Galway’s keeper McDonagh.
Galway’s penalty miss on 80 mins looked like giving Rams the confidence to go on and take all 3 points but just 4 mins later Simon Walsh curled a superb 20 yard effort past Anthony Fennelly to secure maximum points for Galway.
Team: Fennelly, Daly (S), Cahill, Long, Stapleton, Coleman, Daly(D), Cummins, Cream, Murphy, McBride
Subs: Kearney for Coleman(53mins), Bruton, Ring, Downing
